The Churchill Group meets once a week to discuss ongoing research projects and other activities within the group.

Churchill Group members within the Center for Genome Dynamics have developed Independent Studies in Computational Biology (ISCB) to introduce high school students to the real world tools used in computational biology. The program is held throughout the academic year and consists of a series of lectures, journal clubs and student research projects. Students in Maine and North Carolina are taught remotely via distance learning and web based tools.

GeniQuest is a team effort combining the talents of the Churchill Group at The Jackson Laboratory, the Maine Mathematics and Science Alliance, and the Concord Consortium to develop classroom modules to teach computational biology.

Science and math teachers, and student teachers are offered a mentored research experience in the Churchill Group through the M.Sc. in Teaching program, which is based on a hands-on, problem-solving, experimental approach.

Gary Churchill participates in several courses organized at The Jackson Laboratory including:

Short Course on Systems Genetics. This one-week course is led by Gary Churchill and covers computational and experimental approaches to genetic studies that utilize whole genome approaches.

Genomic and Proteomic Approaches to Complex Heart, Lung, Blood, & Sleep Disorders. This highly acclaimed course covers the application of statistics, molecular biology and genetics to the analysis of complex diseases such as asthma, hypertension and coronary heart disease.

Annual Short Course on Medical and Experimental Mammalian Genetics. The content of the annual Short Course focuses on on (1) an up-to-date presentation of genetics in experimental animals and humans, (2) the relationship of heredity to disease in experimental animals and humans, and (3) the importance of molecular genetics in the diagnosis and treatment of inherited disorders.

Annual Short Course on Experimental Models of Human Cancer. The course focuses on the mouse as an experimental tool in cancer research.

High school and college students are provided with an opportunity to conduct independent research under the guidance of Churchill Group scientists. More than 2,000 students, including two Nobel laureates, have participated in this Jackson Laboratory program offered since 1924.
